Hidden Acne Remedies That You May Not Be Aware Of

Always remember, if you suffer from acne, there may be a solution for you. The kind of acne that you have will determine how you are able to treat it over time. If you have less than severe acne, you can treat it very easily with many different solutions.

Most of the time, the easiest way to start treating your acne is to have a technique for good skin care. A healthy skin program that keeps your skin clear and properly cleansed is a great first step toward acne free skin. People that have oily skin are typically more prone to developing acne, which, indirectly, reveals your skin type. Ultimately, your skin type, and your skin care plan, will determine how much acne have. Always avoid harsh chemicals in any of your treatment products, which, most of the time, are not found in high-end acne products.

If you have acne some of the best advice you can follow is to keep your hands off of your pimples. Dont squeeze them. If you are tempted to just inadvertently squeeze your blemishes, you could cause scarring. And when you have a scar, your skin has been damaged. Be very careful if you squeeze your pimple so you dont squeeze it to the point where it starts bleeding. This will definitely result in the formation of scars or, at the very least, enlarged pores. If you apply mild pressure to a pimple that is close to the surface of your skin, you can successfully squeeze out the pus. This is OK to do. Before you squeeze, youll want to cleanse the area with a cloth that has been dipped in warm water. Dont use hot water. This will not only cleanse the area, but will soften the blemish to make squeezing easier. When the skin is warmed up a bit, gently squeeze the pimple. Its not a good idea to try to squeeze out everything. This is too harsh and can result in damage to your skin. The most common type of acne is teenage acne, which is actually acne vulgaris. This type is probably the easiest to treat, which is why lots of people simply use over the counter treatments. However there can be risks when it comes to over the counter treatments for acne. We are, however, simply talking about using over the counter treatments on the kinds of acne that make large and painful lumps. Its easy to make the entire situation a lot worse by self-administering the wrong medication for your needs. In these kinds of cases the sufferer might attempt to use something thats a lot more powerful. So its not difficult to end up putting your self into a vicious circle.

The general reason as to why acne forms is because the passageways in the follicles are blocked. Youll see various conditions depending on how bad the blockage is. The most common reasons for a blockage are more sebum, or skin oil, and also dead skin cells. Additionally, if a comedone or a blackhead is produced it is named an open comedone. But there is a condition in which the comedone can be closed and exist below the skin surface.

If all else fails, go to your local dermatologist to seek out professional help. This will help you pinpoint exactly what you need to do to solve your skin condition problem. To fix the skin condition that you have, they may prescribe drugs of some sort to help you alleviate your problems.

Feds sue to force return of million-dollar dino

U.S. Attorney's Office

This photo, attached as an exhibit to the complaint filed by federal attorneys, shows the tyrannosaur skeleton that has stirred up an international legal dispute.

By Alan Boyle

Federal attorneys today filed a civil lawsuit that seeks to wrest a tyrannosaur skeleton valued at more than $1 million away from its sellers and return it to the Mongolian government.

The skeleton was sold at a New York auction last month for $1.05 million to an unidentified buyer, even though a federal district judge in Texas issued a restraining order to hold up the sale. The auction house behind the offering, Texas-based Heritage Auctions, made the sale contingent on the outcome of Mongolia's court challenge ? and since then, the skeleton has been held in legal limbo.

Earlier this month, a panel of paleontologists declared that the skeleton represented a Tyrannosaurus bataar, also known as a Tarbosaurus bataar, which was probably smuggled out of Mongolia sometime in the past 15 years or so. Today's complaint, filed by the U.S. attorney for Manhattan in New York federal district court, follows up on that determination and lays out the authorities' version of a tangled tyrannosaur tale.

"The skeletal remains of this dinosaur are of tremendous cultural and historical significance to the people of Mongolia, and provide a connection to the country's prehistoric past," Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement. "When the skeleton was allegedly looted, a piece of the country's natural history was stolen with it, and we look forward to returning it to its rightful place."

Mongolia has had laws on the books forbidding the export of dinosaur fossils since 1924.?The complaint says the nearly complete skeleton was brought into the United States illegally, and thus should be forfeited by the sellers and returned to Mongolia.

James Hayes, a special agent-in-charge for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations, said the complaint alleges that "criminal smugglers misrepresented this fossil to customs officials."

When the skeleton was imported into the United States from Britain in 2010, the country of origin was listed as Britain ??even though, according to the paleontologists, nearly complete tyrannosaur skeletons of this type have been found only in Mongolia. The experts cited a dozen features of the bones, as well as their light color and even the dirt stuck in the cracks in the fossils, as characteristic of Tyrannosaurus bataar rather than the larger T. rex or other members of the tyrannosaur tribe.

Federal attorneys said that the importers set the skeleton's value was set at $15,000, but that a value of $950,000 to $1.5 million was listed in this year's auction catalog. They also said the 8-foot-tall (2.4-meter-tall), 24-foot-long (7.3-meter-long) skeleton was incorrectly listed on customs forms as consisting of assorted fossilized reptiles and skulls.

The complaint names Florida Fossils as the ultimate consignee for the imported goods, and notes that the company was owned at the time of importation by Eric Prokopi. The skeleton was shipped from Florida to Texas, and then on to New York in preparation for the May 20 sale. Soon after word spread that a million-dollar tyrannosaur was coming up for auction, representatives of the Mongolian government became interested and sought unsuccessfully to stop the sale.

The dinosaur skeleton is currently in the custody of Cadogan Tate Fine Art in Sunnyside, N.Y.?In the weeks since the controversial sale took place, the auction house has let paleontologists and representatives of the Mongolian government examine the fossil.

"I thank and applaud the United States Attorney's office in this action to recover the Tyrannosaurus bataar, an important piece of the cultural heritage of the Mongolian people," Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj was quoted as saying in the U.S. government's news release about the case. "Cultural looting and profiteering cannot be tolerated anywhere, and this cooperation between our governments is a large step forward to stopping it."

My efforts to contact Prokopi today were unsuccessful, but representatives of Heritage Auctions issued this statement from the company's co-chairman, Jim Halperin:

"We auctioned the Tyrannosaurus bataar conditionally, subject to future court rulings, so this matter is now in the hands of lawyers and politicians. We believe our consignor purchased fossils in good faith, then spent a year of his life and considerable expense identifying, restoring, mounting and preparing what had previously been a much less valuable matrix of unassembled, underlying bones. We sincerely hope there will be a just and fair outcome for all parties."

China astronauts complete successful space docking

BEIJING | Mon Jun 18, 2012 8:28am EDT

BEIJING

(Reuters) - Chinese astronauts carried out a manned docking with an experimental space module on Monday, the latest milestone in China's ambitious campaign to build a space station.

The Shenzhou 9 and its three-person crew, which includes China's first woman in space Liu Yang, linked with the Tiangong (Heavenly Palace) 1 module, with state television showing the pictures live.

Almost three hours later, the blue jumpsuit-wearing mission commander, Jing Haipeng, entered the module followed by colleague Liu Wang and Liu Yang, the first time China has been able to transfer astronauts between two orbiting craft.

Rendezvous and docking exercises between the two vessels are an important hurdle in China's efforts to acquire the technological and logistical skills to run a full space lab that can house astronauts for long periods.

During the 13-day mission, the astronauts will work and sleep aboard Tiangong 1, a trial module that includes an exercise bike and a video telephone booth, according to media.

The mission has been accompanied by a blaze of national pride and has been given blanket coverage by state media, down to discussion on how flying a space ship is a bit like driving a car and how the astronauts will be able to spice up their food with chilli sauce.

China is still far from catching up with the established space superpowers, the United States and Russia. The Tiangong 1 is a trial module, not the building block of a space station.

But the docking mission is the latest show of China's growing prowess in space and comes while budget restraints and shifting priorities have held back U.S. manned space launches.

This is China's fourth manned space mission since 2003 when astronaut Yang Liwei became the country's first person in orbit.

The United States will not test a new rocket to take people into space until 2017, and Russia has said manned missions are no longer a priority.

But NASA has begun investing in U.S. firms to provide commercial spaceflight services and is spending about $3 billion a year on a new rocket and capsule to send astronauts to the moon, asteroids and eventually to Mars.

China plans an unmanned moon landing and deployment of a moon rover. Scientists have raised the possibility of sending a man to the moon, but not before 2020.

Adele song wakes British girl from coma

Danny Moloshok / Reuters file

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper

Singer Adele's hit song, "Rolling in the Deep," is credited with helping a 7-year-old British girl wake from the coma she suffered after a brain hemorrhage.

Charlotte Neve suffered the hemorrhage April 11 during a normal night of watching DVDs with her family, and mother Leila?told the U.K. Telegraph that the situation became so grave that?"doctors told me to say goodbye."

But when "Rolling in the Deep," a song mother and daughter often sang, came on the radio, Leila Neve started singing it to her daughter and the little girl started to smile.

"It was the first time she had reacted to anything since the hemorrhage,"?Leila Neve told the newspaper.?"The nurses were astounded and told me to keep singing, and she smiled again. The nurses said it was like I 'unlocked her' and from that day she started getting better and better."

Charlotte Neve is now recovering at home, but still suffers from partial blindness and memory loss, the Telegraph reports. The family has set up a Facebook page for donations.

Also in April, BeeGees founding member Robin Gibb awoke from a coma after his family sang and played music to him. He reportedly awoke while music from his latest composition, the classical "Titanic Requiem," was playing. Gibb died May 20 from liver and kidney failure.

Sun exposure and sun-sensitive skin type decreased risk for pancreatic cancer

ScienceDaily (June 19, 2012) ? High levels of ultraviolet radiation at an individual's birth location, sun-sensitive skin type and a history of skin cancer each decreased risk for pancreatic cancer, according to study results presented at the American Association for Cancer Research's Pancreatic Cancer: Progress and Challenges conference, held here June 18-21.

Rachel Neale, Ph.D., principal investigator at Queensland Institute of Medical Research in Queensland, Australia, presented the results of a population-based, case-control study that adds to the already conflicting data about sun exposure, vitamin D gained from sun exposure and cancer risk.

"Several ecological studies, including one conducted in Australia, have suggested that people living in areas with high sun exposure have lower risk for pancreatic cancer," Neale said. "However, some studies of circulating vitamin D indicate that people with high vitamin D are at increased risk, and one study of vitamin D intake supports this increased risk."

The results of this study support the existing ecological data which indicate that sun exposure has a protective effect against pancreatic cancer.

Neale and colleagues recruited 714 people in Queensland, Australia, between 2007 and 2011. They were matched by age and sex to 709 control participants. All participants were interviewed about socio-demographic information and medical history. In addition, they were asked about the location of their birth, skin cancer history and skin type, defined by skin color, tanning ability and propensity to sunburn.

Using NASA's Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer, the researchers assigned a level of ultraviolet radiation to each birth location and then split them into thirds based on how much radiation was present.

Participants born in areas with the highest levels of ultraviolet radiation had a 24 percent lower risk for pancreatic cancer compared with those born in areas of low ultraviolet radiation.

In addition, although all skin types had some significant association with pancreatic cancer risk, those classified as having the most sun-sensitive skin had a 49 percent decreased risk for pancreatic cancer compared with those classified as having the least sun-sensitive skin. Finally, participants with a history of skin cancer or other sun-related skin lesions had a 40 percent lower risk for pancreatic cancer than those who had not reported skin lesions.

"There is increasing interest in the role of sun exposure, which has been largely attributed to the effect of vitamin D, on cancer incidence and mortality," Neale explained. "It is important that we understand the risks and benefits of sun exposure because it has implications for public health messages about sun exposure, and possibly about policy related to vitamin D supplementation or food fortification."

Moving forward, Neale recommended that researchers conduct large cohort studies that measure sun exposure comprehensively, and serum vitamin D.

"There are several trials of vitamin D that are either under way or planned, and pooling data from these might give some clue about vitamin D and pancreatic cancer," Neale said.

Light up seesaw makes Australia's Federation Square feel like a kid again

Nothing makes us smile like combining our nostalgia for childhood with our current love of hacking up gadgets and electronics. So, we've got to hand it to the folks over at ENESS, a design group whose latest installation takes cues from the playground as well as the DIY scene. Details on what exactly went into the build are sadly scarce, but it seems safe to assume there's at least one accelerometer on the Tilt of Light somewhere. See, this seesaw is home to 33 rows of lights that react in real time to the motion of the lever. There are also four different "atmostpheres" to choose from (air, water, space and yogurt), which effect how the light behaves. Right now the glowing teeter-totter is sitting pretty in Melbourne, Australia as part of the Light in Winter program. You can see this marvel in action in the video after the break, or by making the trip to Federation Square before July 1st.
