10 Things You Didn't Know About Me with Aggie's Kitchen ? Savor ...

Post image for 10 Things You Didn?t Know About Me with Aggie?s Kitchen

If memory serves correctly, the true bonding moment between Aggie and?myself was via twitter. I seem to recall tossing out my crazy obsession with Black Eyed Peas music and commenting how a particular song gives me energy.

Aggie tweeted back that the song was on her iPod and she ran with it playing every day. Since then we tweet about food, fun and lots of cool dance tunes.

I think we may hold the first ever ?Bloggers Who Cook in the Kitchen and on the Dance Floor? Conference. Would you come?

Without further ado, 10 Things You Didn?t Know About Me with Aggie of Aggie?s Kitchen:

1. I?m a free spirited perfectionist. I drive myself crazy

2. I love video games (though due to obvious lack of time I don?t play anymore). I spent lots of time as a child at the Jiffy Store next door to my parent?s restaurant with a roll of quarters making sure that I maintained high score status on Ms. Pacman. I dream about having my own table top Ms. Pacman/Galaga gamer one day in my home. I may or may not have been addicted to The Sims shortly before my first born came into this world.

3. I?m part fish ? I swam on the swim team all through middle and high school. I swam a mile a day several times a week during both my pregnancies. Being in the water makes me happy.

4. Because I?m part fish (& competitive) I got back into swimming as an adult and raced in two sprint triathlons the past few years.

5. After I burned out on training for tri?s I decided I wanted to run. I?ve never been a fan of running but after experiencing that first runner?s high I got hooked. I ran a half marathon last December. I can barely run a mile today. Oof.

6. I spoke Italian before I spoke English. My parents & grandparents moved here from Sicily before I was born, and my family spoke mostly Italian in our home until I started school. Regretfully, I can?t speak Italian anymore (but I still understand my family?s dialect).

7. I like to play cards. I played Italian card games with my grandma and aunt from as young as I can remember, as well as American card games. Now as a grown up I will sit down at a poker table full of men and feel confident that I can take their chips (or money). I have been known to tag along with my husband to play in poker tournaments. It?s been a while though, I?m a little rusty.

8. I don?t remember ever actually being taught how to cook. I learned unknowingly, by watching my parents (and grandparents) cook every single day, every single meal, at home and at our family restaurant. I have been hanging out in restaurant kitchens since I was 4 years old.

9. I?m happiest when I?m barefoot.

10. I was an ambitious & driven girl when I graduated from college. I dreamed of being a CEO one day and was on the career path to climb the corporate ladder. I worked a little over 3 years in corporate America and decided, no thanks. Who knew?

Pot, meet Kettle: Obama administration hits UN for failing to cut costs (Daily Caller)

The Obama administration is criticizing the United Nations for high personnel costs and is calling for a ?line-by-line? review of the international body?s budget.

At a Thursday speech before the U.N.?s administrative and budgetary committee, the U.S. ambassador for U.N. management and reform, Joseph M. Torsella, questioned how the U.N. could keep costs under control when the $5.2 billion budgeted for the next two years only eliminated 44 jobs ? a 0.4 percent reduction ? and the 2012-13 budget will increase by more than 2 percent to $5.5 billion, Bloomberg News reported.

?That is not a break from ?business as usual? but a continuation of it,? Torsella said. ?How does management intend to bring these numbers and costs back in line??

According to the administration, the U.N. has cut too few of its 10,307 employees and, with an average annual salary of $119,000, the cost is quite large. According to Torsellla, personnel expenses are the ?largest and most important driver of long-term costs.? In the last ten years, the money spent on salaries has risen $1 billion to a current total of $2.4 billion.

The high U.N. expenses have implications for an already cash-strapped America, which shoulders 22 percent of the international body?s budget and 27 percent of its peacekeeping budget. According to Bloomberg, last year the U.S. ponied up $3.35 billion to the U.N., $2.67 billion of which went to peacekeeping missions.

?It is our obligation to our taxpayers to do more with less in Washington and here at the U.N.,? Torsella said, adding that the administration is calling ?for a comprehensive, department-by-department, line-by-line review of this budget? and a new budget approval process. (RELATED: UN to buy NYC playground for new building, US taxpayers could foot bill)

The administration?s tough talk will be welcome news to critics of the U.N. and the amount of taxpayer money it receives.

In late August, Florida Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, introduced the ?United Nations Transparency, Accountability, and Reform Act,? which would place conditions on American funding of the U.N.

?We need a U.N. which will advance the noble goals for which it was founded,? Ros-Lehtinen said. ?Unfortunately, the current U.N. continues to be plagued by scandal, mismanagement, and inaction, and its agenda is frequently hijacked by rogue regimes which protect each other while targeting free democracies like the U.S. and Israel. This bill is about making the U.N. work again.?

Tora Woloshin Turns The X Factor Place Out

Unlike Jazzlyn Little, Tora Woloshin does not possess a superstar's name.

But this 21-year old college student does have the look and the talent to go very far on The X Factor, as proven last night. Woloshin took to the stage and instantly engaged the crowd with her version of "I Want You Back," earning praise from the judges that included L.A. Reid saying she "turned the place out."

Simon Cowell was even more effusive and to the point: "I absolutely love you, Tora. Something about you, the minute you walked out. That's why this show is called 'The X Factor.' It's more than just the voice, it's something else."

Does Woloshin have what it takes to be the show's first-ever champion?
