30 inmates escape from Mexican prison near US border

US authorities have been alerted that 30 escaped inmates from a northern Mexican prison may be near the border.

More than 30 inmates have escaped from a prison in northern Mexico on the border with the United States, authorities in the state of Coahuila said on Monday.

Jorge Luis Moran, chief of public security in Coahuila, said the convicts had escaped through a tunnel dug in the carpentry section of the prison in the city of Piedras Negras.

US authorities have been alerted to help capture the fugitives if they try to cross the border, Moran added.

Some media reports said more than 100 prisoners had broken out, though that figure has not been confirmed.

There have been numerous breakouts in the last few years from Mexico's struggling penal system, where guards are frequently accused of complicity with drug cartels.

At the end of 2010, more than 140 inmates escaped a prison in the border city of Nuevo Laredo.

Northern Mexico has been hit particularly hard by violence stemming from brutal turf wars between drug gangs.

President Felipe Calderon, who leaves office in November, has used the military to try and crack down on the gangs, and has captured or killed many of the country's top kingpins.

However, violence has surged on his watch, and fighting between cartels and their clashes with security forces have claimed more than 55,000 lives over the past six years.

Canadian auto union makes progress with GM

(AP) ? The head of the Canadian Auto Workers says General Motors is waiting for a counter-proposal from the union and he says there has been significant progress toward a new labor deal.

CAW President Ken Lewenza said late Tuesday they will make the offer Wednesday. He also says they've made progress with Chrysler.

The union decided Monday to keep working past a midnight strike deadline after reaching a tentative deal with Ford and extending its contracts with GM and Chrysler.

Workers are staying on the job as talks continue, but can go on strike after giving GM and Chrysler 24 hours' notice. Both companies asked for more time to study the deal with Ford. The CAW wants the Ford contract to serve as a template for the other two companies.

PST: Bayern-Valenica highlights Group F

What did Valencia do to the scheduling gods to deserve this? First, they open their league season at Real Madrid. That?s rough, but OK ? the fixture has to come sooner or later. Two weeks later, they were at Barcelona. A little weird, but OK. Got to roll with it. Now, they open Champions League at Bayern Munich? Not only could you not get a more difficult schedule, but you could only get it if you (a) were a Spanish team and (b) had qualified for Champions League.

And thus you have today?s headliner from Group F:

Bayern Munich vs. Valencia

Allianz Arena, Munich, 2:45 Eastern

Valencia has reason to be upbeat about this whole hardest schedule imaginable-thing. First, nobody?s expecting them to go into the Allianz and get three points. If they want to be boring/pragmatic and play for one, so be it, but they can also go in and play with naive abandon and not worry about giving away points they?re counting on to make the Round of 16. Second, Valencia acquitted themselves quite well at both the Bernabeu and Camp Nou: a draw and a loss, 1-2 aggregate score. If they can play that well in Munich, they can get a result without renting any buses.

It seems unlikely Mauricio Pellegrino will play for a draw. The new Valencia coach is off to a fine start with his old team, even if it?s not reflected in his record. But Pellegrino has a personal stake in this one. The 40-year-old Argentine was a starter on the Valencia team that faced Bayern in the 2001 Champions League final. Oliver Kahn saved his spot kick in the shootout to give Bayern their last European Cup. In all likelihood, that result will have no bearing on Wednesday?s match, though if it did, Pellegrino wouldn?t be the first manager to let an old memory influence the present.

In addition to Pellegrino, Valenica?s made a series of changes to the team that failed to advance out of last year?s group phase. Euro 2012 star Joao Perreira and Lyon?s project-come-good Aly Cissokho are the team?s new fullbacks. Mexican international Andres Guardado and Argentina starter Fernando Gago have been brought into the midfield. ?Paraguay?s Nelson Haedo Valdez is starting with Roberto Soldado up top. Although?Los Che are off to a strong start, the jury?s still out on how strong they will be.

Bayern returns the same core that made last year?s final with two notable additions. Former Wolfsburg striker Mario Mandzukic?s addition has proved prudent as Mario Gomez misses the beginning of the season, while Javi Martinez was brought in from Athletic Bilbao for a Bundesliga record $52.1 million. They may be the tweaks Bayern needs to go from German Cup runner up, second place in the Bundesliga, and Champions League finalist to a team that wins things.

More: Tuesday?s winners and losers

Lille vs. BATE Borisov

Grand Stade, Lille, 2:45 p.m. Eastern

Like Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, Lille got a rude welcome (or, re-welcome) to life in the Champions League last year. Surprise champions of France, LOSC looked surprisingly ill-equipped, failing to win home games against Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor en route to a last place finish. Even more than BVB (also last place finishers in their group), Lille served as evidence that domestic success, even in a big league, means little in Champions League.

Rudi Garcia and squad will look to build on last year?s experience, though they do so without leading scorer and two-time Ligue 1 player of the year Eden Hazard, who hass since moved to Chelsea. They?ve also lost Moussa Sow since the last time they appeared in the competition, the Senegalese attacker making a move to Turkey in January. Along with last summer?s loss of Gervinho to Arsenal, Garcia has lost the three attackers that won him France?s 2010-11 title.

Undoubtedly Garcia would want those players back, but with last year?s lessons in tow, Lille should be stronger this season. They may not be better (they?ve only won one of their first five in France), but they?ll be better equipped to navigate the tournament?s obstacles. With Salomon Kalou, Marvin Martin and the team?s new focal point, Dimitri Payet, they still have the talent to compete with Valencia for second place.

First up is BATE, the group?s weakest team. The Belarussians find themselves in group stage for the second straight season, having won two playoff rounds to claim their spot. Last year, the team went 0W 4L 2D while posting a -12 goal difference. Although BATE have added former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Aleksandr Hleb, the team is largely unchanged from the one that finished fourth in their group last tournament.

Apple's new iPod touch, nano and shuffle now up for pre-order on Amazon

Apple's new iPod touch, nano and shuffle now up for preorder on Amazon

Sure, all the talk of late is about Apple's shiny new iPhone 5, but let's not forget the company also unveiled a slew of fresh iPods back at the Yerba Buena Center this past week. And while the Cupertino outfit's had the music-friendly lineup for pre-order on its website from day one, folks can now start placing orders through Amazon as well. The only bad news is the revamped iPod touch shows an estimated shipping time of 3-5 weeks, while the "renanoed" nano and the tiny, colorful shuffle are both expected to be shipped in 2-5 weeks. As far as pricing goes, the MSRP tags are the same as Apple's -- though there is a better chance you could get them a bit quicker thanks to one of Amazon's renowned shipping options. Either way, you'll find 'em all at the source link below.

How to Know When Your Personal Brand Isn't Working | Personal ...

You?ve taken all the right steps. You came up with your personal brand, made business cards, customized your resume, wrote cover letters, accumulated recommendations, compiled a portfolio/blog/website, completed your social media profiles, and set up your professional, brand-compatible email account. You?ve networked, applied for jobs, and put yourself out there.

But after all that work, you?re still sitting at home, twiddling your thumbs and drumming your fingers. Why?

Maybe your social media profiles aren?t presenting your brand the way you want, or your resume doesn?t accurately reflect your top skills. Whatever the reason, one thing is clear: your personal brand isn?t working.

So what can you do?

Review your resume. Look over it again. Make sure your experience is up-to-date and all your responsibilities from each position are clear. Eliminate unnecessary wordiness and try to avoid padding your resume. Get rid of summer jobs and leadership positions from high school. If you?re more than five years out of college, toss out your freshman and sophomore years of college as well. Unless the experience really highlights something essential, drop it off the resume. While resume-pruning can be scary and seem unnecessary, future employers will thank you when they don?t have to weed through padding and extraneous information.

Revisit social profiles. Take another look at your social profiles and how they present your brand: you. Are all your college photos ? you know, the one of you bonging a beer that your best friend added out of nostalgia ? hidden? Have you made sure to remove yourself from groups that might present you in a negative light? It?s okay to remove yourself from that group your freshman hall made in solidarity when they stopped serving fried chicken. Weed out groups that don?t represent who you are anymore, or that might appear in conflict with your brand.

Also, go through your LinkedIn profile. Are you a member of your industry?s group in your community? Most groups are open to join, and if not, requesting an invitation can never hurt. Join professional groups to build your network but also to demonstrate to employers your different interests. Make sure any volunteer experience or unpaid positions you may have held are listed on your profile. Even helping your friend?s mom set up the website for her new business counts as experience and builds your resume. You want to position yourself as an expert in your field, so the more experience you have ? and visible to potential employers ? the better.

Proofread! Proofread everything. Make sure your cover letters don?t have typos, your electronic signature shows up properly at the end of emails, and your portfolio or webpage layout displays correctly. These may seem like little things, but to employers, they display a lack of follow-through and potential sloppiness. Always, always, always proofread everything you send out or post to the Internet. Have a friend, or a few friends, look over any new content or work samples. Keep in mind that potential employers are looking for you to prove yourself, so don?t let a little mistake keep you from the dream job.

And, when all else fails, talk to a professional. It is perfectly acceptable to ask for help ? encouraged even. Ask your boss from your last internship, a connection you have in the industry, even your parents, for help setting up your brand. While it should be someone who knows you, professional connections with less one-on-one contact can still have helpful tips. Whoever you ask, give them everything. They can look it over with a fresh set of eyes and tell you from an objective perspective what your brand says about you. If it?s not the image you want to present, ask them how you can fix it. Ask them to advise you on what social media sites you should, if you?re not already, be on, which niche communities you should be joining, and who you should be networking with. See if they can set up any introductions with people they think may be helpful in furthering your career.

So take a step back, take a deep breath, and try to look objectively at your brand. Chances are, if it?s not working, it?s because of something little. Follow these steps, and get ready to build the greatest brand of all: you.

Is your personal brand working?
