No. 25 North Carolina women beats No. 12 Miami
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Chay Shegog hit the go-ahead free throws with 1:11 left, helping No. 25 North Carolina rally past No. 12 Miami 65-63 on Monday night in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.
Shegog finished with 20 points to lead the Tar Heels (11-2, 1-0 ACC), who won despite finishing with a season-high 31 turnovers. North Carolina trailed by eight with about 5? minutes left before fighting back to take its first lead on Shegog's free throws.
Freshman Brittany Rountree added 14 points, including two free throws with 16.7 seconds left to push UNC's lead to four.
Miami (11-3, 0-1) had a chance to tie it late, but Riquna Williams missed a layup after pushing past Rountree in transition. Shegog grabbed the rebound and was fouled with two seconds left. She missed both free throws, but Morgan Stroman's hurried heave from beyond midcourt wasn't close as the horn sounded.
T25-VIRGINIA-DUKE
Liston helps No. 7 Duke women beat Virginia
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Tricia Liston had 18 points to lead four players in double figures for No. 7 Duke, which blew past Virginia 77-66 Monday night in the ACC opener for both teams.
Haley Peters added 13 points, Richa Jackson 12 and Chelsea Gray 11 with eight assists for the Blue Devils (10-2), who have won 19 straight in the series.
The contest marked the first return to Cameron Indoor Stadium of former Duke player and assistant coach Joanne Boyle as the Cavaliers' head coach.
Ataira Franklin led Virginia (12-3) with 19 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out with 1:49 left, while Ariana Moorer added 18.
Duke senior guard Shay Selby, who returned to the lineup after missing five games because of a disciplinary suspension, had five points in eight minutes.
The Blue Devils were up 41-37 following Franklin's 3-pointer with 17:40 left, but went on a 10-2 run over the next three minutes.
WAKE FOREST-HARRIS OUT
Wake Forest's Harris held out with strained groin
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Leading scorer C.J. Harris was held out of Wake Forest's game against Wofford on Monday night with a strained groin.
Harris injured his groin late in a victory over Yale on Dec. 29 and was sidelined as a precaution. Team officials said Harris was expected back for the Demon Deacons' Atlantic Coast Conference opener against Virginia Tech on Saturday.
He was on the bench for the Wofford game in street clothes.
Harris is a third-year starter who leads Wake Forest with an 18.7-point average.

UNC's Paige-Moss to enter the NFL draft
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina says junior defensive end Donte Paige-Moss has told Tar Heels coaches he plans to enter the NFL draft.
Paige-Moss played all 13 games and finished with 29 tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Tar Heels' loss to Missouri in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 26.
Paige-Moss' numbers fell significantly from his sophomore season, when he started 12 games. He had 49 tackles, 13? tackles for loss and seven sacks in 2010, but found himself playing behind touted NFL prospect Quinton Coples and sophomore Kareem Martin this season.
